10/27 West Los Angeles Satellite Tournament

After such a big turnout in San Diego, we can only hope Los Angeles can keep up. Our 2nd WSOBP III Satellite will be in west LA, back at the Good Hurt nightclub.
We are well aware that the setting was dim last time around. We want to assure everyone that we made our concerns known, and the owner had more ambitious goals for improved lighting than we'd even hoped for.

We will keep the format consistent to the San Diego Satellite. And like the San Diego tournament, we will give byes (as needed) based on sign-up order.

SCBP wants to send as many southern California teams as possible to this year's World Series, and October 27th will be your next chance to win your WSOBP III entry fees. That's a $1000 value!!!

The World Series will be held at South Point Hotel in Las Vegas between January 1-5, 2008, with the winner taking home $50,000. That's right - 50 Gs to play pong. It's a ton of fun, and a fairly cheap Vegas vacation. We think everyone should attend the World Series. If you sign up and pay the deposit before October 15th, you can save $50 per person. If you win this satellite, SCBP will pay your entry fees (and you'll get your deposit back).
SCBP will be using modified WSOBP II rules for this and all other satellite tournaments. The only major difference from regular SCBP rules is that only one ball is rolled back if a team hits two shots. We will be assigning any possible byes for this tournament based strictly on the order of sign-ups, so register your team today to give yourself the best possible chance at a first round bye. If you have any questions about this tournament and the prize, email contact[at]socalbeerpong.com.

hypothetically speaking, what happens if you win more than one satellite tournament?

Peter's picture

Hmmm.

I had thought of that, but hadn't come to a conclusion. I suppose any team that wins one can make it easy on us by not playing in another one. I'll bring it up at the next board meeting.

executive session

We definitely need to talk more when you get down to SD, but my feeling is offering up some sort of cash prize alternative (available to everyone, not just previous winners). The only other real option is to let them transfer it to a friend and let them come up with whatever payment plan they want.

How does this work?

As a noob to a tourney, what should my expectations be after I pay the registration fee? Do I buy the beer? What kind of beer? can I bring spectators aka dd (under and over 21)? can I film?

Good Noob Questions

We haven't worked out logistics to offer beer as part of the registration. Pitchers at this location are $10 for domestics. The venue for this place is designated as a club, rather than a bar/grill - which means that they have to be extra strict on not allowing minors inside. Spectators over 21 are welcome. At any other bar though, spectators under 21 are usually fine.

As for filming - if you're planning on some sort of commercial venture, you'll need to talk to us in more depth. For personal use - you're fine. Hope that does it...

As a Noob myself!

So We have to pay for are own beer. How many Pitchers do you use
in a Tournament?

The best answer to every question...

It depends.

If you're serious about your drinking, a half pitcher per team per game is a good basis. How many pitchers you end up needing depends on how many games you win. Honestly though, we don't (and can't) enforce any drinking rules, and provide water for teams that want to just drink on the side. So the drinking is all up to you...

There's something wrong with the flash

After what happened at the last tournament at the Good Hurt, I recommend not using any cameras with the flash while someone is shooting. Otherwise your face might get smashed in.
