New Socal Dynamo
Thanks to all who showed up to the Blue Cafe for Saturday's tournament. Thirty-five teams from all over socal (Bako & the IE rollin deep) battled it out, with only one earning free entry to the $50,000 main event in Las Vegas.
A few highlights:
Temecula's return to the scene was just short of legendary. Dan & Tarek have been regulars since day 1. Chad has been around since day 2. They have been MIA this year, as SCBP has kept a light schedule, but showed up in force...
- Team Beirut lost their first game. It could be expected to have a rough tournament after a long layoff. They bounced back in the loser's bracket, showing us a formidable run of 5 straight games.
- Welcome Back to Bouncy Town was the feel good story of the day. Chad found an enthusiastic bouncing partner in Lolo, and they almost forced what could've been an epic final match between two former partners (Scott vs. Chad). Winning 7 straight in the losers bracket, bouncing, was a site to behold, but their efforts came up just short in OT vs. Wan/Kirb.
In the side tournament, Double Tap and Dirty Apples both needed redemption after a rough outing in the main tournament. Double Tap took the long road to the finals, but looked to be in the driver's seat after dominating game 1. Game 2 went to OT, and Dirty Apples prevailed.
At the end of the main tournament, the relatively new pairing of Ricky (24/7) and Scott (Big Trouble in Little Tokyo) quieted the room. They won last week in Lake Forest, and rolled through the bracket again, beating The Real Show, and 2/3 against Wan Some Kirb? for the day. Rick and Scott have been feared players, but this pairing looks to be the new socal dynamo. Stay tuned for upcoming tournaments...
