Chords, Strings, We Brings, This Week's Recap.
We didn't quite hit the east side of the LBC, but just being in proximity was enough to invoke some Nate Dogg and Warren G.
Some brothas fillin cups so I said "Let's do this"
I jumped on the table, and said "What's up?"
They hit a bunch of randoms so I said "What the %*ck."
After pulling shots out of no where during the 7/5 tournament, Jermane reunited a partnership from last fall - Moose Knuckle Massacre. Jamie, his Flick the Bean partner, paired up with Jeremy under one of the best team names, Kendon's Farts Smell Like Gary's Cock, but they fizzled in their two straight losses. Moose Knuckle Massacre had better results, and made it all the way to the winner's bracket finals before hitting the wall, falling to Thanks for the Invite, Peter.
The loser's bracket had a few interesting matches. In It 2 Win It lost early, and won three straight. When asked about their chances to win the tournament, Todd's response was, "We're going to take this. We just beat Yugo!" In the next round though, they could not get by At A Snail's Pace, who took their team name from the description of their side tournament performance in last week's recap. They were pumped to get the "Beirut Salute" with 2 cups left for redemption, and nailed both to send the game to OT. Beirut cleaned up all 3 OT cups quickly, sending At A Snail's Pace to a 4th place finish. Maybe next week they should speed it up to a medium pace.
After losing to Thanks for the Invite in the winner's bracket final, Moose Knuckle Massacre didn't have enough in the tank against a more experienced Team Beirut. In the championship match, Beirut was the team that fell short - giving Stephen his second title in two weeks. A week after devoting this very space to the IE, and the likely winner in any Jackie Jr. look-a-like contest, Stephen paired up with IE Mike to take down this tournament as well. Mike competed with SCBP late last year, was MIA until the May 5th co-ed tournament where he made a deep run, and has been playing at almost all of the recent tournaments.

It's difficult to go from the elbow rule culture of house parties to competition. It's not recommended to try shooting with a lean for the first time at a tournament. If Bill Walton commented on SCBP tournaments though, he'd definitely say something along the lines of, "Use the height big man!"
This week's shot analysis comes from 2-time champ, Stephen. In somewhat OCD fashion, Stephen will bounce and spin the ball in his hand, finding the sweet spot. You'll then notice the maximum use of his frame - much like the greatest leaner ever, Mike Wan. The main observation is not that Stephen pushes off of one foot (even Ron Hamilton suggests this technique), but the unconventional leg kick that follows. It's the sort of leg kick that gives arguments to the |

fiction side of the how-real-is-Stephen's-New-Jersey-girlfriend debate. I'm just saying. Look forward to more shot analysis in future tournament recaps. |

The $5/team side tournament featured a couple newcomers who just showed up to hang out with their buddies, but were enticed by the cheap entry. Not sure if they're big fans of Tom Cruise (which would be questionable at this point with his ridiculousness) - but they played as Risky Business - and proceeded to win three straight to make the finals. Chad & Scott hit rough spots (which weren't due to shenanigan's from Judge Smails or Tony D'Annunzio), but they pulled their game together in order to beat Pirate Hookers in the loser's bracket final, and took the $30 home after taking down Risky Business twice for 1st place.

SCBP has been proud to bring competitive beer pong to Southern California. We take all aspects of the game seriously, and in that respect we hope to be a model for similar groups. On that note, MDBEERPONG has been around for years and simply takes the cake in terms of organization, skill, and web presence. They set the standard, and are an inspiration and example for all competitive beer pong leagues/tournaments. They've recently expanded their entertaining blog section to now include thoughts from both founders along with the Barn Animal. Check them out for their regular thoughts on life in the beer pong world.
