Exceeding in the sporting world usually becomes more difficult with age. Younger bodies are better equipped for the stresses that athletic competition have to offer. There are the rare occasions where athletes defy the odds. In 1986, when Jack Nicklaus was a strapping young 46 year-old, he won the Masters, a golf tradition unlike any other. While a 46 year-old is not likely to win a more physically demanding sports like basketball or football, golf allows for someone of that age to play at a high level. (Baseball can fit in that category as well - see World Series champion Jamie Moyer). Another sport that is age friendly? Beer Pong.

Old guys have displayed brilliance in this sport for years. In 2006, Lodge West beat a bunch of college students at the 2006 Barfinder satellite series, to background chants of "Go Home Old Guys". In 2007, RJ broke away from the Balding Assassins and formed Silence who promptly won the first two tournaments they entered. Those victories were monumental. The college students in Fullerton had hardly seen people over the age of 25, let alone get domo'd by them in a college drinking game. Silence's two straight >50 team tournament wins was incredible for similar reasons.

At SCBP's El Guapo tournament, old and young showed up to the battle. A newly turned 21, Pat Simpson partnered up with his SCBP veteran brother (Dan of Don't Pee In The Fish Tank) as Brothers Simpson. On the other end of the spectrum, were RJ, back with the Balding Assassins and with a combined age of 70 years old, the owner & manager of El Guapo (Butler - El Guapo).

Dan & Pat took the winner's bracket, beating Starsky & Clutch, G'd Up, and Balding Assassins. Guapo regulars Coup De Grace were also in the house, and after losing to the Assassins, they won three straight on the loser's side (including a well-played 7th place finisher, Your Cups = Frank Mir's Face). In a winner's matchup between the older generation, the Assassins beat Butler - El Guapo. Rick and Butler fought back for a rematch with the finger gun shooters (RJ | Tad), one that had the Assassin's girlfriends on the edge of their seats.

As owner/manager of El Guapo, Butler and Rick are no strangers to the game. Butler has been throwing ping pong balls since before Pat was born (and has a resume - with a number of Guapo tourney wins, 1st place on the beirut odds board, and a high WSOBP IV finish). They parlayed their experience into a close 1-cup win over the Assassins, and then gave the younger Bros a verbal battle over how much beer they were drinking, a tactic that arguably gave them the edge to come out on top. On a weekend when Tom Watson came an 8 foot putt short of blowing away the age record for a major golf champion, Butler & Rick come out on top, knocking Lodge West & Silence off of the 'old guy' perch.
