4/11 Satellite Tournament Recap
The week started without the usual buzz among the San Diego beer pong community for SCBP events. 51 teams still managed to show up despite the holiday weekend, spring break, and the overcast weather. Some might suggest that the gloomy economic times have affected tournament participation. It is hard not to think that there is something in the water if only 1 lonely Kick Rocks team shows up.
The field still had some powerhouse teams, but the bracket felt lopsided when Pure Filth fell in their first match, thanks to 2 Dicks, 10 Holes. Just Bring It, one of many swingers-party teams, featured Grady from Team America, and Mike of, well, the 34123 teams that he's played on. Meg picked up a co-worker to play as The Virgin & The Whore, as a reference to their relative beer pong conquests. If Meg's a whore in that sense of the word, Mike is a cup guzzling queen. Just Bring It fell early too, after a first game match-up against Team Beirut, they dropped to the loser's bracket against Mom's Awesome. Maybe We Should Call Her?.
The Kick Rocks contingency repped well, beating recent high finishers Butte Pirates on their way to the winner's semis. All Day was there as expected, taking down another Vegas team, Yellow Fever. Hot Damn cruised through their bracket, taking full advantage of Pure Filth's misstep. Schitzweak beat Mywicky and We Wipe With Our Shooting Hand on their way to the semis. LFG would upset All Day and then beat Schitzweak, with Nasty Nate straight nasty when shooting first, and holding ball #2 in his off hand.
In the loser's bracket, a few teams tried to make runs. Dope Boys and Wideout lost their first match, then won 3 straight before dropping loss number 2. Butte Pirates and Wet Balls, both with high finishes at the end of February, also won 3 straight. Mywicky, in their SCBP farewell (moving back to the more cost-of-living friendly midwest), mustered 3 wins of their own, and ended with a 7th place finish.
Two teams mentioned above took advantage of the back-to-back nature of the loser's bracket. Pure Filth got on a roll, and took down 7 games in a row, but fell to Just Bring It, who time and time again came to the official scorer's table to report, "They didn't bring it either". Mom's Awesome brought enough in round 2, but that was the last time it was broughten on the day. To say the finals was miserable would be fair, but both games went to OT, which added some drama to otherwise poor play. Congrats in full to Just Bring It, not only for their 9 straight wins to come out on top, but to rebound from the physical pain and embarrassment of landing in a heap on the ground after trying a running jump distraction (kudos Grady).

Official congrats is in order for 2nd place Kick Rocks LFG - $150, 3rd place Schitzweak - $50, 4th place Pure Filth, and Hot Damn and All Day in 5th. Congrats also to Team Beirut and We Shit On Donkeys! for their 1-2 finishes in the side tourney.
