2/28 - Canes Satellite Recap

February 28th brought 80 teams to Canes to battle it out for a bid to the World Series of Beer Pong V. There were quite a few creative team names that were in attendance. Beerack Oponga and Lance Armstrong's Other Ball lost two straight, but got creativity points. You've Been Rick Roll'd finished in 33rd place. I'm So Excited. I'm So Scared. and Thug Means Never Having To Say You're Sorry both finished respectably in 13th place.

In double elimination tournaments, a team can lose a game but still have a shot at first place. Past Our Prime (playing previously as Haasman the Great) has made runs through the losers bracket before, and history repeated itself once again. Dave and Jonah lost their first game, but rattled off 6 straight wins to make their way to 9th place. Hey There Sasquitch! won 4 straight to also finish in 9th place. Training Day had the most impressive run, losing their first game, then winning 7 straight, finishing in 7th place.

Green Man, fresh off their victory last month, started off strong, winning their first 4 games. Newcomers Butte Pirates surprised Green Man in the winner's bracket quarter final. Black Wan looked to be a good teammate combination, with birthday boy Kendon playing the Scottie Pippen to Mike's Mike (including a 3/7 perfect game). Black Wan also took advantage of other teams' demise (yes you MIA) as they made their way to the winner's bracket final.

On the other side of the bracket, Wet Balls Beer Pong made up for a poor 1/31 showing as they won 3 straight to start their day, before losing to a team that always finds it's way to the top 5 - Mywicky. All Day kept winning all day, beating an ex-girlfriend on Free The Twins Foundation, Hybrid Rice, pongleague's finest- Yugoslavian Pancakes, popped-collar golf pros Mywicky, then Black Wan twice for the victory. Fat Kid and Eric are two terrific individual players, but are a force as a team. In fitting fashion, Eric went on to win another tournament later that evening, proving his talents to be the envy of all SCBP players.
