1/31 - First Satellite of 2009 Recap

The first satellite of 2009 was as successful as anyone could expect. 64 teams signed up - your gracious hosts had a couple overbooking mistakes which created a final field of 69. Teams shuffled around, creating some new, yet familiar sounding names like Beat Cherries, Shred the Sniper, Half Baked, and This Is What Happens When Science Has Sex With Magic (that last one is just bad-ass). The LA Steelers were another powerhouse hybrid team with a camouflage name. Kick Rocks made their biggest appearance to date, caravanning 5 teams down to San Diego. Of course they made their presence felt with each of the five winning their first games. KR Platinum and KR CEOs won their first 3 and 4 games, respectively. Both would fall to an unknown to the SCBP circuit - another traveling team from Fresno, Green Man.

Green Man proved themselves to be the team of the day - beating Brangelina, 2008 Satellite winners Team Beirut, the two Kick Rocks teams, and then Fat Kid and Bryan playing as the LA Steelers - twice. [Video of the Final Match]

1/31 Satellite Champs - Green Man

Not to take away from the feats of the champs - but the match of the day was easily the loser's bracket final between Half Baked and LA Steelers. Not only did the Steelers shoot a perfect game, but they needed to - as Half Baked only missed two shots, including one miss in redemption. On the game, Dustin and Mike each only missed one, Bryan and Fat Kid missed none, and the two teams combined to shoot 19/21 - for a staggering 90.4%. There are not too many games where you'll see a team shoot 82% and lose. Thanks to those four players for a memorable game. [Video of the game at 5-2]

Save February 28th on your calendars - we will have an announcement for that tournament soon.
