August 31st Satellite Tournament Recap
Eighty teams signed up for SCBP's third World Series Satellite Tournament of 2008 at Belly Up in Solana Beach. The favorites had to be Pure Filth, third place finishers from last year’s World Series of Beer Pong, and the winners of the first two SCBP satellite tournaments. The reigning World Series champions, Chauffeuring the Fat Kid also had to be early favorites. Ringers from Las Vegas, the Bay Area, and Oregon also attended with their eyes on the prize.

Grady and Brian of Team America: 8/31 Satellite Champs
After four rounds in the winner’s bracket, only 8 teams were left. Rectum Reckers made it through despite not having a first round bye. Don’t Pee In The Fish Tank and BeiAreaRut were no surprises. Tom from BeiAreaRut shot a self-proclaimed 80% in his first five games – which is tough for your average two man team to beat. He also gladly took on the villain role, being the a-hole from out of town looking to ruin everyone’s day. 40 Oz to Freedom took down Pure Filth, and won the bounty of free SCBP shirts as the first team to do so. Dropping Loads took out Team Beirut on their way to the quarterfinals. Flick the Bean won a battle between Stanford Beirut in the 3rd round, then took down another proven team - Sink & Drink in the 4th round. Team America took down juggernauts CtFK after besting We Shit On Donkeys!, quietly making their run. The last team in the final eight – the easy winner for best team name – This Microphone Looks Like a Penis in My Mouth, who took down Oregon, and Nucking Futs.
BeiAreaRut rode Tom’s impressive shooting into the winner’s bracket final, where they met Team America, who used consistent performances from both Grady and Brian to win all of their matches. America started slowly, firing the BeiAreaRut squad up. They then stalled out on the six cup rack, when coincidentally, Jermane from Flick the Bean began to give the northerners a dose of their own heckling. America had a three cup turn to get back in the match, which was tied at three-three. BeiAreaRut missed two shots, and America hit all three of theirs, which proved too difficult for the Bei to match.
In the loser’s bracket, a few teams made some impressive runs. MyWicky, two newly turned 21 year-olds, had a great day, notching two wins on the winner’s side, then beat five good teams (3 of the 8 aforementioned quarterfinalists, as well as eliminating Pure Filth). The Shockers lost their first game, then rallied to win five straight. Ballz Deep and Blood, Sweat, and Beers also had good runs, each winning four straight after early losses.
Stanford Beirut almost pulled off the impossible. They lost their second match of the day to Flick the Bean getting sent early to the loser’s bracket. They had to win 6 straight games to force a re-match – and did, beating CtFK, Team Beirut, Don’t Pee, and 40 oz. They won the rematch with Flick the Bean, hit two super clutch redemption shots in forcing two overtimes against MyWicky, then beat BeiAreaRut in the loser’s bracket finals to see which Bay team would battle with America. The final match was hardly that at all, with Grady sinking the last cup with 7 still on the table. It turned out to be a nice run to an always disappointing 2nd place finish for Stanford Beirut, but the team of the day was undefeated America, who will enjoy a trip to the World Series of Beer Pong.
