Leaning is a big issue. It's understandable to not like seeing people lean so far. At the same time, leaning is hard to limit without using a highly subjective rule. I have personally been to tournaments that use an elbow rule, and there are always arguments about whether someone's elbow has crossed, and they are usually from teams that break the rule themselves. With big money on the line, we want there to be as few disagreements as possible, and that is the consensus across the country with competitive beer pong. Allowing leaning does give taller people a slight advantage, but it rids the game of ridiculous arguments that are based on infractions viewed from the worst angle possible (the opposite side of the table, 8 feet away, is not where the elbow police should be standing).
While it is easier to hit cups while leaning, it is still not that easy, as the tables we use are 8 feet long. Anyone hitting cups while leaning is doing so because they are good.
If you have any further questions or suggestions, feel free to post again, though this is definitely something that has been reviewed, researched, and discussed heavily.

the elbow rule would be impossible to enforce but what about having to keep both feet on the ground or having to keep your torso be behind the table like in the green men vs la steel they dont have their whole their upper body across the table like steeler do
Keeping two feet on the ground sounds like a decent idea, but in practice, does not really contribute to stopping a lean, and ends up raising the issue of whether someone's foot raised off the ground or not, which again is a judgment call (we used to use this rule, but stopped late last year). As for instituting a torso rule, this is just as hard to enforce. Anyone with any body movement might appear to be crossing a line, which is just as hard to see from the other side of the table.
I just don't see how a 'posture' rule, saying a person cannot bend at their waist, would stop petty arguments. If we said that people had to stand straight up, there would definitely be tons of complaints about so-and-so bending his waist as he shot (the same complaints about someone who maybe lifted his back foot off the ground before he shot, but maybe didn't as well). If these rules were in place, there would just be no shortage of people wanting to bitch and moan about infractions of such rules, which is our reasoning for not using them.
I was thinking, since it's impossble to regulate elbow rules and putting tape on the ground will just come up and cause other issues. What about if we instituted the converse of a leaning rule. The you MUST lean as far as you possibly can for each shot, otherwise your shot is null and void. That makes everyone happy because then everyone will be on equal playing ground.

Polohero had the same argument as you did, just the complete opposite side, so how could it be the dumbest thing you have ever heard?
I really don't get how people like you think...People shoot the way they do because it is comfortable for them. If you shoot better when you are leaning, then lean. If you shoot better standing straight, then do that.
People that don't lean because it's not comfortable for them feel like leaners have an advantage, so they bitch about leaners have an advantage. It's ridiculous. People like you have tried leaning and sucked at it, so they bitch about making an elbow rule.
I was being serious. If it's such a big deal to you, and you think it really gives people an advantage then why not. It's much easier to force leaning than try and enforce not leaning. But, it doesn't give you an advantage. How many of the top players are really that tall? Not that I'm a top player but, I'm 5 8, and I started leaning to try and get better, but after like 6 months, I realized I shoot a ton better standing straighter. Either way I'm still competitive.
Rules that Prevent Leaning are Too Flawed
