2009 Spring League - Week 6

Mother's Day trimmed down league participation as expected, with a special shout out to Kristal's mom for coming down, and enjoying a glass of wine while we all played. We keep seeing an elevation in performance, as teams are stepping up when the competition is tight. As the regular season dies down and teams jostle for the top 6 spots, each point is valuable, and some series are coming down to one shot being potentially worth 2 points.

Cock Push-Ups Anyone? shot over 60% against Pure Filth, and took 3/4 points for the series.
Hey There Sasquitch shot over 60% against War Kittens, and took 3/4 points for the series.
Pure Filth shot over 60% against War Kittens, and took all 4 points for the series.
Wet Bandits shot over 60% against Tribute, and took 3/4 points for the series.

As you can see above, shooting really well doesn't even guarantee wins against good teams, as teams still lost games even when shooting 60% on the series. Pure Filth shot 56.4% on the week, but somehow lost 4 of 12 games. Hey There Sasquitch shot 50.2% for the week, but lost 5/15. Cock Push-Ups Anyone? lost 6/12 while shooting 48.6%. Sorry.

Individually, a lot of players stepped up to the table in week 6. After 5 weeks, most people have 500+ shots already on the books. At that point, bumping up a shooting percentage takes significant improvements. Despite that hurdle, the following people had worthy gains in their overall percentages:

RJ played 5 series. After starting slow, shooting only 50% in series #1, he shot over 65% in the last four series combined, and not dipping below 60% for any of those 4. RJ's consistency was no match for Dustin's brilliance when their two teams faced off, as Pure Filth took down the War Kittens. In game 2, Dustin shot 8/9. In game 3, he made all 11 shots he took (and he needed all 11, as the game went to OT).
