2009 Spring League - Week 1

SCBP's 2009 spring league is shaping up to be the best SCBP league yet. 23 teams came out for week 1, with multiple teams deferring their first appearance to week 2. As teams have improved over the past couple of years, the league is also shaping up to showcase some of the best talent SCBP has seen. Case in point - in past SCBP leagues, a 60% game from any individual player was a stand-out game. While this is still a great mark to hit, we witnessed 48 total 60% games, including at least one such game from 18 of the top 20 players.

There are a few teams that are old timers to the league, league regulars playing on new teams, tournament regulars, and some new faces getting their first taste of SCBP events. 2008 Spring League champs Pure Filth showed they are still the team to beat, winning all 9 games and collecting 12 points. The other team with an unblemished record refused to chose an identifiable-on-paper team name, and wrote "-" on their scorecards. I'm going to call them "Three Less Than Equals Eight" if they are just going to go by a symbol. They also racked up 9 wins and 12 points. West Side Love trails by a lonely point, with an 8-1 record and 11 points. Teachers Who Love Beer, more familiarly known as TWLB, is back in action 'cancer free and betta than eva'. They also had a tremendous week 1, going 7-2 for 10 points, exceeding most standards. Pituitary glands. Who needs em?

On the individual side, there were a few really strong performances. Peter, Kendon, Chad, Dustin, Scott, and Dan all shot over 50%, with Gary, Trenor, and Bryan lurking at that magical number. The Drunk Dads both had extremely solid weeks. They held the somewhat dubious accomplishment of being the only two players in the top 20 to not have a single game over 60% (which means they also did not have any terrible games either). Ike, Mike (Shang High), Veronica, Lindsey, and Erin all fell below the top 20, but had flashes of brilliance with a game shooting over 60%. Team Ramrod was the most equal pairing of teammates on the night, with both players shooting within a half of a percent of one another.
