LA Summer League - Week 1
Updated 07/10/2007
If the first week is any indication, then SCBP's Los Angeles Beer Pong League should be a lot of fun. We had 14 teams show up for the first week, with just about everyone getting a chance to play 3 different teams (a total of 9 games apiece). Read more for Week 1 results.
A couple of tournament veterans, Team Kobe and G'd Up, started off undefeated, both going 9-0. The two teams chose to have a 3-game playoff for the $20 bar tab (which is generously donated by Bad Dog Ale House to the best team of the week). Team Kobe took home the honors with a slim 2-1 victory. It was great to see these teams play through they're past differences, but it's obvious that the rivalry is alive and good. We're looking forward to these teams duking it out more and more as the league goes on.
A couple co-ed teams also had had impressive starts, with Mad Crazy Skillz going 8-1 and Beer Pong Fo' Life going 7-2. After taking a break from competitive play, Tyler (SCBP co-founder), finally got a chance to knock the rust off his game. However, Tyler's return to the table was overshadowed by the stellar play of his partner, Meg, who's last cup skills are becoming the thing of legend. Both halves of Beer Pong Fo' Life (Zac and Luz) were the models of consistency, with both shooters in the Top 5.
Also, records don't show tell the whole story. The Beer Pong Gods might have dropped all 9 of their games, but they did it with style and to the Top 3 teams for the week (Team Kobe, G'd Up, and Mad Crazy Skillz). We don't expect these guys to stay down long. Off in the Woods also drew some tough teams, with both players shooting better than the record would show... especially last second replacement, Marsha, who did more than hold her own.
Over all, it was a good first week. And given that there are 6 more weeks to go, there's plenty of time to improve. See you all next week.
